TRUE FICTION (Ongoing project)
True Fiction is a series of collages from still life photographs that delve into the intersection of beauty, decay, and
our rapidly changing environment in a post-factual world. Drawing inspiration from the classical nature morte tradition, I
use wilting flowers and taxidermy to craft scenes that exist in a suspended reality—one that may
feel plausible yet remains fiction. These compositions explore the notion of memento mori, but on a
broader, more urgent scale: the impending consequences of climate change.
The series is not a documentation of the present but rather a true fiction: a constructed reality that
mirrors the environmental decay we face. Through the lens of still life photography, I intend to
evoke both a sense of nostalgia and discomfort, prompting viewers to reflect on the impermanence
of natural beauty and the looming threat to our world's biodiversity. It serves as both a tribute to
nature's splendor and a cautionary tale of its demise. All the depicted taxidermic birds and animals in this series
have serious population decline because of loss of habitat due to deforestation and climate change.
My own photographs of the dioramas from the Museum of Natural History in Oslo were used as
printed backgrounds when shooting these works.
